Auckland's Story

Our unique story

"Auckland? When you think of it as a region, more than a city, you start to get a handle on what it's got.

It's like a cluster of islands, each with its own story - giving you all sorts of choices. It's about having access to a harbour playground, choosing to work in the city, living in a rainforest... or all of those things. In Auckland everything is only a stone's throw away. Having that kind of choice is pretty rare, the ability to balance your life to suit you.

What stops Auckland from being some kind of sleepy lifestyle place is its thriving economy and the driving ambition it has to make its mark. Right now it's growing fast in every direction, new skills coming in, great jobs up for grabs. The power behind all of this is a real cultural mix, giving Auckland that rhythm that all great places need. It feels international and local, it's alive.

You could call it a youthful energy; a young place in a young country, where you feel like the history is still being written. You get a sense Auckland's moving forward, and you're moving with it. Surrounded by people who just get out there and get into it.

I know our connection to the land and the heritage of the place play a massive part in making life here what it is, and Aucklanders have started to wake up to our unique stories. Our sense of identity is something we've really got to hang on to.

With the way people's priorities are shifting these days, you feel Auckland's a bit of a secret, just waiting to get out.

A new breed of place, for a new breed of people. More balance, more quality and more possibilities.

That's what it's all about... and when you put it together, I know we've got somewhere unique."
